About The Mentor Project
The Mentor Project is sponsored by Be A Mentor, Inc., a non-profit community-based organization which brings schools, local businesses, and government together in order to initiate and coordinate mentoring of youth by the community.
Be A Mentor-trained Mentor Site Coordinators match caring adult volunteers from the community with students in one-to-one relationships. Mentors give extra time to being a friend, answering questions, and providing guidance. Mentors come from a variety of occupations and volunteer their personal time to care for a student. They serve as a role model, advocate, and resource.
The purpose of the mentoring relationship is to help students develop their full potential, both in and outside of the classroom.
Mentors commit to 4-6 hours per month with their student and optional periodic group activities with other mentors and students for one year. Mentors must also be fingerprinted for a background check and complete a Tuberculin test.
