Unfortunately it is not enough to say that a long standing employee is guaranteed to be a good mentor. We see in the media where people considered to be pillars of the community are arrested for child pornography and other crimes against our children.

Be A Mentor, Inc. takes nothing for granted. Every applicant to be a mentor undergoes a background investigation that includes the Department of Justice and/or the FBI . Personal references are checked and training is delivered.

Beyond this background clearance and screening, the following occurs:

· All children are monitored daily by a project administrator

· Each mentor is required is required to complete online activity and progress reports

· Project administrators have access to all email correspondence between mentor and mentee

· All communication is on a secure, monitored server so mentor and mentee have not need for actual email address

Be A Mentor, Inc., in its fifteen year history, has not had an adverse incident between mentor and mentee. However, we realize that no system is fail-safe and question mentees daily about their mentoring experience.
