Join the Be A Mentor Program network of mentoring projects and have the first level of background screening completed for you.

The Be A Mentor Program is not like the many Internet-based mentor referral sites. Here is how it works:

• A mentoring program located anywhere in the US registers with the Be A Mentor Program network and provides a description of the program including the target youth population being served and a program overview;

• Visitors to the Be A Mentor Program Site can view the projects and their descriptions by State and region within each State;

• When visitors view a mentor project of interest, they can complete an on-line application to become a mentor in their chosen project; The application collects all the information necessary to complete an FBI background investigation and includes three personal references;

• When prospective mentors complete the application and are entered into the Be A Mentor Database, your project operator will have direct access to the database via the Internet to complete and track each applicant?s background clearing process;

• Once the applicant is cleared, your program operator will be given a tool via the Internet to match the newly cleared mentor with a youth or group of youths;

• The project operator can monitor the progress of each match and collect data entered into the system by the mentor;

• This system has several reports that can be generated plus an email communication system to allow mentors, students, and program operators to stay in close contact;
