The elapsed time from receiving a mentor application to referring a mentor to a project can be as short as a couple of weeks or as long as several months. Mentors sometimes become impatient and drop out before the process is completed. Others become discouraged when, after such a long induction process, they are not matched with a student soon after. Mentors are not guaranteed to be matched with a student. A mentor/youth match depends upon the project manager approving the mentor for matching with a youth.
