Students and Be A Mentor Program
The Be A Mentor Program is sponsored by Students In Business, Inc., a non-profit community-based organization which brings schools, local businesses, and government together in order to initiate and coordinate mentoring.
What
is mentoring?
Mentoring involves the match of a responsible and caring adult volunteer from
the community and a student. A mentor is willing to give extra time to being
a friend, answering questions, and providing guidance. Mentors come from a
variety of occupations, serve without pay, and give personal time to care
for a student. They are a role model, advocate, and resource.
What
is the purpose of the mentoring relationship?

How does the student-mentor
relationship work?
The mentors and students complete an application detailing pertinent information
including hobbies and interests. In addition, mentors and students are interviewed
and attend a program training, which includes resource materials and tips on
successful mentoring. Mentors must be fingerprinted for a background check and
must complete a tuberculin test. Mentors and students are then matched and the
relationship commences. Thereafter, the match is supported by Be A Mentor Program.
