Comment on the Email Mentor Program
I decided to do this e-mail mentor program because I thought that it'd be fun to have an e-mail buddy. It turned out to be really cool. It's kind of neat having an older e-mail buddy. My mentor is really nice. She gives good advice about school and other things like work. She's really fun to talk to. I ask her a lot about school. I mostly ask her for advice on trig class. She keeps track of my status in that class. We also talk about our families and friends. We talk about our weekends and what we did. I tell her about the different people I go out with and what we do. I just enjoy having someone other than my regular friends, to talk to. I feel that out of this program I've gained a new friend and some good advice. -Jean
"What am I supposed to write about to some person I don't even know?" However my thoughts proved me wrong. This Intel Mentor Program has actually been beneficial. I look forward to receiving an email from my mentor. There is this close bonding feeling I feel when I write to my mentor. I feel as if I can write about anything. The mentor process began September. We usually email each other every week or every other week When I first heard about this e-mail mentor program I thought to myself, "What a waste of time." There has been some long breaks in between due to my mentor moving with her company to Folsom and her being busy with a business she runs. Besides that we respond to each other as soon as we receive an email. Things that are covered are things that deal with life and goals that I wish to accomplish in the future. My mentor usually asks me a few questions about life or goals that I wish to fulfill. I then respond and ask her questions about herself and her life. This mentor program has helped me see where I stand and what I want in life. I allows me to express openly to my mentor and get advice. Sometimes it is nice to get advice from an adult other than my parents. Basically my mentor and I have an open and friendly relationship. It is nice to have someone whom you can talk to openly and feel comfortable. -Hanna
This e-mail mentor program has really been fun! My mentor, Tim, is great. He actually writes back to me. We've corresponded about many topics. We talked about my classes, our interest, his past schooling experiences, literature I was reading, what my goals were and what field of schooling I was going into.We have been corresponding since November of 1999. I try to correspond as often as I can but mostly when I get a reply from time. Our correspondences has allowed a sort of outlet to express my goals and interest. It's a good feeling to know someone is interested in what I like. I know there are other people who are also interested, but talking about it to someone just adds to the feeling. -Huy |
